Associated Medical Professionals of New York (AMP), an affiliate of U.S. Urology Partners, is pleased to announce that it has treated the first patient in the United States under the newly approved indication for Pluvicto® (lutetium Lu 177 vipivotide tetraxetan) in patients with PSMA-positive metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (mHSPC). The historic treatment follows the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s July 31, 2026, approval of Pluvicto in combination with androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) and an androgen receptor pathway inhibitor (ARPI) for patients with metastatic hormone-sensitive disease.
On Monday, August 10, 2026, the AMP patient was given the first dose of Pluvicto® (lutetium Lu 177 vipivotide tetraxetan) in the mHSPC space under the care of Steven E. Finkelstein, M.D., DABR, FACRO, FASTRO, Director of the Center of Advanced Radiation Excellence (CARE) and Director of Radiation Oncology Research. In 2025, Dr. Finkelstein was first in the nation to provide Pluvicto in the pre-chemotherapy space post FDA approval.

The FDA approval was based on results from the Phase III PSMAddition trial of which Dr. Finkelstein served as a Principal Investigator, demonstrating that Pluvicto, when added to standard-of-care therapy consisting of ADT and an ARPI, significantly reduced the risk of disease progression or death compared with standard therapy alone. Updated trial results showed a 33% reduction in the risk of progression or death and a positive trend toward improved overall survival.

Pluvicto then delivers targeted radiation directly to those cancer cells while minimizing exposure to surrounding healthy tissues. Bringing this treatment into the hormone-sensitive setting allows us to intervene earlier and potentially improve outcomes for a much larger group of patients.”
The approval expands the use of Pluvicto across the continuum of PSMA-positive metastatic prostate cancer and nearly doubles the number of patients who may be eligible for treatment. Pluvicto is now the only PSMA-targeted radioligand therapy approved for both metastatic hormone-sensitive and metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer.
